JumpDrive Music FAQs

Q: Why can’t I play any music that I purchased from an on-line music retailer such as Music Now, BuyMusic.com, etc?
A: In order to playback music purchased from an on-line music retailer, you need to update the firmware on your JumpDrive Music. Go to Download Drivers, find JumpDrive Music, download the updater and follow the installation instructions. Please note that the updater is for Windows only. If you have a Mac, currently we are working on an update and when it is complete, we will add it to the updater page. Please check back periodically.
   
Q: How do I update my JumpDrive Music’s firmware to play music that I purchased from an on-line retailer?
A: The process to update your JumpDrive Music is very easy. Be sure to remove all of your files from your JumpDrive before starting since you will be formatting your JumpDrive Music during the update process.

The steps to update your JumpDrive Music are broken down into 3 areas: Downloading the Updater, Installing the Drivers and Running the Updater:

Download and Install Updater:

  1. Download the firmware updater from http://www.lexar.com/drivers/index.html
  2. Unzip/uncompress the files on your computer.
  3. Open the Lexar_Media_JumpDrive_Music_DRM_Distribution_1202 Folder.
  4. Open the folders and double-click on the Setup File.
  5. The Setup file will install the JumpDrive Music DRM Updater

Install drivers for STMP3410 (JumpDrive Music’s Firmware)

  1. Remove the AAA battery from JumpDrive Music.
  2. Press and hold down the thumbstick navigation button.
  3. Plug JumpDrive Music into an open USB port (it is easier if you use a USB extension cable (not supplied by Lexar)
  4. Wait until you see the dialog box: Found New Hardware – STMP3410
  5. Once you see this dialog, stop holding down the thumbstick navigation button.
    a) If you do not see this dialog box, repeat steps 2 – 4
  6. You will see a Welcome to the Found New Hardware Wizard – Install software for STMP3410
    a) Select Install the software automatically option
    b) Click Next, follow the on-screen instructions and install the drivers.
  7. After you have installed the drivers for the JumpDrive Music’s firmware, you can now run the JumpDrive Music DRM Updater.


Run JumpDrive Music DRM Updater

  1. Go to Start/All Programs/Lexar JumpDrive Music DRM/JumpDrive Music DRM updater.
  2. The updater will search for connected devices and after 1 minute, you will see the updater screen.
  3. The updater screen will show your version of the firmware and the updater version.
  4. Click on Format Data Area to format your drive during the update.
  5. Click Start
  6. After a few seconds, the updater will show Complete. You can now unplug your JumpDrive Music and your firmware will have been updated.
  7. If you prefer, you can also uninstall the Lexar DRM Updater by going into the Lexar_Media_JumpDrive_Music_DRM_Distribution_1202 Folder, going into the Program Folder and then double-clicking on the Uninstaller.
   
Q: How can I play music purchased from iTunes?
A: Unfortunately, songs purchased from iTunes are encoded in a proprietary format, MPEG-4 AAC, which is not compatible with JumpDrive Music.
