Alicia Hansen
Originally from Atlanta, Georgia, Alicia Hansen has made an indelible mark on the New York photography scene by passionately setting her eye to the composition of human dignity and capturing images that are reflective, joyful, authentic, heroic and beautiful.
Alicia began her career as a photojournalist with the Atlanta Journal and Constitution after receiving her Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism and Mass Communications from the University of Georgia. Extending her reach as a sought-after photojournalist, Alicia completed internships with The Seattle Times, The Guardian in London, England, The Roanoke Times and World News, The State Journal-Register in Illinois and The Athens Daily News and Banner Herald. She then received her Master of Arts degree in Visual Communication from the Syracuse University Newhouse School of Communication and completed a photo editing internship at Fortune Magazine. She also participated in the highly-acclaimed Eddie Adams Barnstorm Workshop in 1998, 1999, 2001 and 2004.
Her career gained even greater depth when she apprenticed for two years for internationally recognized photographer Joe McNally, where she served as a producer, first assistant, picture editor and photo operations manager on award-winning projects. Her contributions range from "The Faces of Ground Zero," featured in Life Magazine, to the first digital project and a cover story on aviation in National Geographic, which was the magazine's best-selling issue ever and garnered a spot as a National Magazine Award finalist. She has also assisted on projects featured in publications such as Golf Digest, Men's Journal, Sports Illustrated, ESPN, People, Business Week, Bride's Magazine, IZOD, Van Heussen, Geoffrey Beene, Dillard's and pharmaceutical campaigns.
With a confident versatility and extraordinary ability to grasp the depth of humanity, Alicia opened a studio in Manhattan in 2006. Her client list includes Fortune Magazine, Golf Digest, Health Magazine, Bloomberg News as well as IBM, Catherine Malandrino, GCI Communications, and the book, America 24/7. Her documentary approach has also taken her to the set for "The Apprentice" to shoot the still photography for the fourth season of the show, and also to the set of "My Celebrity Home" to appear as the show's guest photographer.
In order to broaden the horizons of those around her, Alicia volunteers her time to help socio-economically disadvantaged young people in New York City learn to tell stories with photography, music and other forms of visual communication. Using her professional resources, she has created a program dedicated to empowering youth to dream of a brighter future.
