Alan Hess

Through concert photography, Alan integrates his love of music with his passion for visual design. "It's all about the music, " he says, and the challenge of capturing music in a medium that has no sound. His parents took him to a Simon & Garfunkel concert, which sparked his interest, and the Grateful Dead continued it for many years. Once, in college, Alan left his photography class before the final exam to see a Grateful Dead show. He enjoys the fast pace of shooting on the fly, the rush of the house lights going down, and the drive to capture the "show" in the images of first three songs. Some of the Bands/Musicians that Alan has worked for include: Barney Doyle, Bembe Orisha, Bruce Hornsby, Grateful Dead, Jemimah Puddleduck, Alfonso Johnson, Mark Karan, Mickey Hart Band, Modereko, John Molo, Bob Weir and RatDog, The Dead and The other Ones.

Alan turned his forte for shooting fast action, to martial arts and fashion. He has done commercial photography for Mike Lipe Guitars, Mia Brazilia Clothes, and Twin Dragons Sports Center (Martial Arts studio). Alan offers a wide variety of photographic services including: on-location photo shoots, photojournalistic assignments, CD/DVD graphic design, DVD Menu creation, and commercial travel photography.
