Craig Breil
Craig Breil is happy to be an export from suburban Detroit. He developed an interest in photography very early, after seeing his first image come up in
the dark room and from that moment, there would be no other career path for him. He received formal education in photography from The College for Creative
Studies in Detroit, focusing on fine art photography, and also photojournalism, but that was just a way to pay the bills (or so he thought). Working his
way through school by shooting for local publications, he discovered that his personality and "decisive moment" style of shooting were well-suited to
editorial photography. A short stint in metropolitan Detroit doing freelance commercial editorial work for GMAC Magazine, General Motors, and Hour
Detroit Magazine, provided a foundation that would be built upon when his wanderlust kicked into overdrive.
On the go for the next several years, his U.S. travels covered the map from Portland, OR, to Portland, ME. Then it was on to South Korea, Thailand,
Germany, Cyprus, Holland, Greece, Turkey and elsewhere. His work has since appeared in a variety of publications and has been commissioned by numerous
organizations including Frequent Flyer Magazine, Koch Holding, Kolanaki Design, Metal Center News, Turkish Elle, The University of Michigan, Philip Morris,
ABC, CBS, ESPN, and FOX. At present, he lives ten miles from his home town, having re-grown some Michigan roots. He is currently head of development for
D-troitMediaFactory, which aims to be a one-stop shop for the media needs of national and international clients.
