Jay Watson
Specializing in lifestyle imagery of people on location, Jay Watson photographs with a photo essay approach that is a cross between documentary and environmental portraiture.
Using black & white, color, digital and film formats, the images speak to an audience as if they were out on a Sunday drive. Bodies of work such as Broken Down Heroes and Cali Life,
are essays that exemplify Jay's vision and photographic style. We learn about his subjects through not just their portraits, but also in the details of their clothing, rides, and surroundings.
A tattoo becomes just as important as a face.
Jay received recognition at the International Lucie Photo Awards in two separate categories. Cali Life, an ongoing work in progress was acknowledged for People Lifestyle photography,
and his work for Garage Magazine was honored in the Editorial category. He studied photography and art history at UMBC in his hometown of Baltimore, MD.
In between shooting personal projects and meeting the needs of a growing client list, Jay also teaches a digital photography class at The Academy of Art University.
He is currently based out of San Francisco where he has lived since 1999.
