Jason Hamacher

Jason Hamacher is an internationally-recognized photographer, writer, musician, and massage therapist. By the age of 23 he had toured Europe, Japan, Israel, and the US numerous times with various bands and had written and recorded 11 albums. He currently runs a Washington, DC-based production company, Lost Origin Productions, in addition to leading the massage department of Klinger Advanced Aesthetics in Chevy Chase, Maryland.

Hamacher's photography career began in 2000 with the demise of his Washington, DC punk band, Frodus. Frodus had toured internationally for years and came to a sudden end in late 1999. Hamacher traveled for several months trying to figure out what he wanted to do with his life. Returning home, he took a "real" job working reception at a medical spa where he was quickly promoted to Medical Coordinator. The company was expanding and he found an old manual Minolta SLR while moving offices. The camera sat in his room for months but once he figured how to turn it on, his life was never the same.

Hamacher taught himself the basics of photography by reading the National Geographic Field Guide and getting tips from his professional photographer roommate. Hamacher's Minolta met its demise in the waterfalls of Virginia's White Oak Canyon. Wanting to hone his manual skills, he stepped up to a Nikon FM2N. In April of 2002, he took his FM2n and organized a solo expedition into Eastern Anatolia, driving a rental car 3,000 miles along Turkey's borders with Syria, Iraq, Iran, Armenia, and Georgia. Returning with rare images and tales of remote holy sites, castles, and ruined cities, Hamacher began selling prints and accepting freelance jobs.

Hamacher has two photographic works in progress. The first is a book that will reveal the modern and ancient city of Aleppo, Syria to an international audience. The second book is a rare behind the scenes look into the ordination of a Syrian Orthodox Archbishop. He is currently working on a four-part project in Syria with the Yale Institute of Sacred Music, the Syrian Orthodox Church, and the Embassy of Syria in Washington, DC. His clients range from the Washington Wizard's Dance Team to the heavy metal band, Megadeth and everything in between. His work has been featured in publications including The Washington Post, Vice Magazine, Alternative Press, and The Washington Diplomat.
