Artwork Requirements:
The most important factor in high quality printing is the original
artwork file. The highest quality and most preferred type of art is
vector based. This type of art is created in programs like Adobe
Illustrator and Corel Draw. Raster graphics are also acceptable, but
they must meet certain requirements to be used in printing. So,
what’s the difference?
Here are two versions of the same logo. The image on
the left is vector based, and the image on the right is raster. Enlarging the vector
graphic has no effect on sharpness. The raster graphic has jagged edges and will not print as well.
Vector based artwork is also much easier to separate when printing
multiple colors. Typical file formats for vector art are .ai, .eps, and
.cdr. Some PDF files may also work depending on the original file.
Typical raster formats are .jpg, .gif, and .bmp. These files will be
accepted for single color artwork only. They must have a resolution
of at least 300 dpi at the final size.
All multi color artwork must be submitted in vector format with fonts
outlined. Industry standard is 1/32” of movement between colors.
Type size should not be less than 6pt, and fine lines should not be
less than .5pt thick. Any files needing additional touch-up or color
separation will require a $50 art charge.
