Jerry Avenaim, an A-list celebrity and fashion photographer, is a native of Chicago who got his start as assistant to legendary photographer Patrick Demarchelier. Upon venturing out on his own in 1985, his first assignment was a foreign edition Vogue cover of Cindy Crawford. He continued his fashion career out of Milan working for Italian Vogue under the direction of Editor in Chief Franca Sozzani.
Returning to the United States he gained the trust of American magazine editors, and began shooting for the major fashion catalogs in his hometown of Chicago. He got his first advertising campaign photographing Brooke Sheilds for Durasoft Contact lenses through Young & Rubicam in 1988.
Having made his mark as a fashion photographer, Avenaim moved to Los Angeles in 1992 and began photographing celebrities. He immediately fell in love with the genre. In the last decade, Avenaim's resume of mega-watt stars reads like a who's who of Hollywood.
Jerry Avenaim's celebrity portraits have graced scores of magazine covers and his images have appeared in almost every major magazine worldwide, including Vogue, GQ, Glamour, Vanity Fair and Newsweek. His list of advertising clients includes Durasoft, Phat Farm, Guess, Ford Motor Co., McDonalds, Twentieth Century FOX and Warner Bros.
Known for his willingness to encourage young photographers, Avenaim has led hands on workshops since 2003 and has been a featured speaker at PMA, Photo Plus Expo and colleges throughout the country. Through his professional work and feedback, he continues to aid in the development of photographic technology for leading camera and equipment manufacturers. Lexar is his digital media solution of choice.
