Why create Another Memory Card Standard
Current form factors differentiate primarily on physical size, shape and speed. Some form factors are based on proprietary or closed standards requiring licensing or royalty fees (Memory Stick, SD, xD). All form factors offer essentially the same basic DOS file structure with some extra features CPRM (SD & MagicGate). Each form factor requires a proprietary connector or reader both in the host device and to connect to a computer. Performance variations in memory cards can cause compatibility problems or restrict host functionality.

None offer a truly ubiquitous portable storage solution across computing, consumer and mobile applications.

The USB Card Form Factor
- Length is defined as 1.25” or 31.75mm with no over-mold
- Label recess on top to not exceed maximum height of 4.5mm
- Finger grip on bottom ensures easy removal
- Full or Hi-Speed USB interface provides 12Mbit/s or 480Mbit/s
- Sturdy full metal jacket shell for harsh environments
- Proposal to adopt as open & free industry standard in USB-IF

USB FlashCard - Features
- Small Form Factor that is easy to use
- Compact size similar to SD card in size
- High Capacity (comparable to other small form factor flash cards)
- Rugged design with USB interface contacts protected
- Unparalleled ease of use with no cables or readers required
- Proven interoperability, compatibility and compliance programs

USB FlashCard - Benefits
- USB is a well established industry standard interface (USB-IF)
- USB allows implementation of unique application specific features
- Best interface infrastructure in the computing market
- Fits into anything with a standard USB Type A receptacle

USB FlashCard provides optimal user experience with no cable or reader and no drivers.

USB FlashCard – Cost Benefits
-For the Consumer
USB FlashCard offers a compelling value as compared to other flash memory cards as it  eliminates the need and cost for a card reader.

-For the Manufacturer
The host device does not need any conventional flash card interface.  The Additional cost  for the USB host and/or OTG(On-The-Go) is offset by the Transceiver connector and  interface cost savings since only a USB interface is needed

-For the FlashCard Manufacturer
Increased sales of USB flash drives in USB card form into Consumer and Mobile  Applications. USB Card is an open royalty and license-free form factor that is proposed as  a standard within the USB-Implements Forum.
